Members of the Georgetown community should take steps to maintain the security and integrity of Georgetown information resources as they make use of or develop AI tools. Users or developers of AI tools should work with the Georgetown University Information Services before using AI tools that are not institutionally approved on Georgetown systems or cloud services or when incorporating code from third parties in the development of AI. As with other forms of software, AI may introduce viruses or other vulnerabilities into Georgetown systems. Georgetown’s focus on information and system security is, in part, how the university helps to meet its privacy and confidentiality obligations.
